It is the policy of M.D. Steele Construction Ltd. to perform work in the safest manner possible, consistent with the Workplace Safety and Health Act and the regulations made under the Act. The personal safety and health of all employees is of vital importance to the company and will not be sacrificed for the sake of production or expediency. To fulfill the responsibilities of this policy, an organized and effective safety program will be undertaken at each location where work is performed.


In pursuit of this objective, M.D. Steele Construction Ltd. will go to any reasonable expense to:

  • provide safety training and instruction
  • enforce safe work practices
  • develop safe work procedures (hazard analysis)
  • make available special protective equipment to help protect employees
  • implement regular job site inspections
  • adequately maintain all tools and equipment
  • investigate all accidents and "near miss" incidents

M.D. Steele Construction Ltd.'s plan to achieve the goal of an accident free working environment includes subjecting employees to the following safety program:

  • New hire safety orientation
  • Review of Project Safety Plan
  • Emergency planning and procedures
  • Daily tail gate discussions
  • Weekly tool box meetings
  • Job specific hazard analysis
  • Job specific safety training
  • Supervisory safety meetings

Responsibility for the safety program is delegated to line supervision in accordance with the chain of command.

All Project Managers and Superintendents are responsible for the safe construction of their assigned projects and are accountable for the results achieved by their crews and subcontractor crews.

All subcontractors and their workers are required to co-operate fully with M.D. Steele Construction Ltd.'s personnel in the execution of this Safety Policy and comply with the Workplace Safety and Health Act and the regulations made under the Act.

Each employee has a responsibility to carry out activities in the most knowledgeable and safest manner, to point out unsafe conditions and acts, and use appropriate personal protective equipment.

Safety is a shared responsibility. It is in everyone's best interest to make a commitment to developing a healthy and safe working environment.
